‘Saved By The Bell’ Reboot Trailer Reunites Fans with Bayside’s Finest

“Do you remember how much fun high school used to be?” On Wednesday night, NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock released the official teaser for the Saved by the Bell reboot, which reunites viewers with their favorite Bayside High students, now all grown up. The first Saved by the Bell reboot trailer features Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley in their iconic roles as A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano, as well as a few other cast members (hey, Kelly!). Peacock has not set an official release date for the series, but it is slated to debut in 2020.

Peacock’s Saved by the Bell revival follows former Bayside students Slater, Jessie, Zack (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), and Kelly (Tiffani Thiessen), now adults, as they attempt to rein in the next generation of high schoolers. Slater, Bayside’s effervescent jock, is now the school’s gym teacher, and he spends his days counseling students. “When I was in high school, I constantly used to fight with my best friend over a hot girl,” he tells Mac Morris (Mitchell Hogg), Kelly and Zack’s son, and Jamie Spano (Belmont Cameli), Jessie’s son. “That was actually your dad. Over your mom!”

Elsewhere, business-savvy Zack has put his skills to good use and worked his way through the political system. Now the governor of California, Zack is forced to shut down schools in low-income areas; these students are sent to Bayside, where they quickly clash with the overprivileged students. When Mac complains about how slow the school’s digital book system is, Daisy (Haskiri Velazquez) breaks the fourth wall, saying, “Time out. What did that blonde fool just say to me?”

While multiple Saved by the Bell stars will be appearing in Peacock’s reboot, one will be notably absent: Dustin Diamond, who played Screech. According to Yahoo, Diamond was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct in 2015 and was arrested again in 2016 for violating the terms of his probation. Diamond has continued to act, but has mostly made appearances as himself in projects like Celebrity Big Brother and Adult Swim series Your Face is Going to Hell.

Peacock’s Saved by the Bell reboot airs later this year. The streaming service officially launches on July 15, but is currently available for Comcast Xfinity TV and Flex broadband customers.
