Watch “The Wonders” Reunite For ‘That Thing You Do!’ Watch Party

Everyone’s favorite fictional band from the timeless film That Thing You Do!, “The Wonders,” reunited for the first time in 24 years via Zoom on Friday night to watch the 1996 movie and provide commentary along with some special guests. The event was set up by the actors in remembrance of Adam Schlesinger who fell victim to the coronavirus and to raise money for MusiCares’ COVID-19 Relief Fund.

Actors Johnathon Schaech, Tom Everett Scott, Steve Zahn and Ethan Embry entered the Zoom chat from their respective homes, which was live-streamed on YouTube, to reminisce about the beloved film alongside fans of That Thing You Do! who watched along. The full watch party is now available above for you to do the same from the comfort of your home.

While Tom Hanks, the film’s director and band manager in the film, couldn’t make it to the watch party, his son Colin Hanks (who briefly appeared in the film) sat through most of the screening with the boys. Scott mentioned during the stream that Liv Tyler also wanted to join but it was too late in the United Kingdom where she is currently staying.

The live-watch party also featured surprise cameos from actors Giovanni Ribisi, the One-ders’ original drummer in the movie, and Kevin Pollak, who played Pittsburgh DJ Boss Vic Koss.

As mentioned above, The Wonders’ reunion was partly sparked by the death of Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger, who actually wrote the catchy Wonders’ hit, “That Thing You Do!” Schlesinger was 52 when he passed due to complications related to the COVID-19 virus. “Adam Schlesinger, we will always remember you,” Scott said during the end credits.
