‘Dishmantled’ on Quibi is a Blast of a Cooking Show

It’s been nearly two weeks since Quibi — an app with a daily smattering of “quick bite” content — made its way into the world. And ff you’ve been having trouble finding what to watch, you’re not alone. The catalog is never-ending! But if you’re going to watch one show on Quibi, treat yourself to Dishmantled. Tituss Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) hosts this fabulous cooking competition, and it’s a real blast.

Like Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, and many other beloved cooking competitions, the premise of Dishmantled is relatively simple: two chefs must prepare a meal in 30 minutes, and serve it to a panel of judges. But obviously, there’s a twist, and here’s where things start to get super fun. The chefs don’t know exactly what they’re cooking. Instead, they stand in hazmat suits and the food is blown up in their faces — they must taste the remnants and try to determine what it was, pre-explosion.

The judging is less about taste, and more about who was closest to the actual dish. I don’t want to spoil all of the dishes, since it’s fun to guess alongside the chefs, but there’s ice cream, tomatoes, ground beef, and so much more blasted cuisine. Watching esteemed chefs peel detonated onions off the floor has never been more entertaining.

And Tituss Burgess should be hosting everything! For now, we only have Dishmantled, but his hosting skills are truly off the charts, and work really well with this fast-paced show. His energy is the true explosion. Burgess is a sarcastic, cocktail-drinking host with a catchphrase: “Y’all ready to blow sh*t up?” Since he knows the actual dish, he adds the occasional judgmental camera smirk when the chefs take a wrong turn.

Along with flying food, another unique quality Dishmantled offers is lovable guest judges. Along with Burgess, one famous actor and one pro chef help choose the winner. If you’ve ever wanted to watch Antoni Poworski (Queer Eye) and Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek) on a cooking show together, check them out judging the first episode of Dishmantled. There are some other great names, like Jane Krakowski (30 Rock, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Shameik Moore (Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse), and Michael Che (Saturday Night Live).

If you’re a fan of cooking competitions — be it Masterchef, Chopped, or even Hell’s Kitchen — do not miss Quibi’s Dishmantled. Even if you aren’t, the episodes are all under 10 minutes. They fly right by. Sign up for your free trial and give it a whirl! All 10 episodes are currently available to stream on the app, and hopefully the future of Quibi will bring more Tituss Burgess — and more food explosions.
