‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ is Coming to Netflix Next Month

Netflix is bringing another anime series to its customers. The streaming service announced on Twitter today that Avatar: The Last Airbender will be available to stream on Netflix starting next month on May 15. Avatar: The Last Airbender aired for three seasons, and every single on is coming to Netflix.

Avatar: The Last Airbender makes its Netflix debut 15 years after the show premiered in 2005. The show ended its run after three years on Nickelodeon in 2008. The show follows the Avatar, the only person capable of mastering all four elements: water, earth, fire and air, in a world where some people can harness individual elements through martial arts. At the start of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the world has been missing the Avatar, who is reborn every generation, until a 12-year-old named Aang is reincarnated as the Avatar. He and his friends must face off against the Fire Nation to put an end to a destructive world-wide war.

After Avatar: The Last Airbender ended in 2008, M. Night Shyamalan released an animated version, The Last Airbender, in theaters two years later, which was widely considered a flop. A sequel to the 2005 show was created in 2012 called The Legend of Korra, which takes place 70 years after the original series and follows Korra, the Avatar after Aang. The show ran for four seasons on Nickelodeon until it ended in 2014. Netflix is currently working on an Avatar live action series.

Currently, Avatar: The Last Airbender is available to watch on Vudu, Prime Video and Google Play. All three seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender are coming to Netflix May 15.
