Meghan McCain Slams Elisabeth Hasselbeck After ‘View’ Appearance: Her Message is “Really Dangerous”

Meghan McCain may have inherited Elisabeth Hasselbeck‘s conservative seat on The View, but she’s certainly not a fan of her predecessor. On Wednesday night, McCain appeared via satellite on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where she reflected on Hasselbeck’s stint as a guest co-host in mid-March. The outspoken conservative slammed Hasselbeck’s “dangerous” messaging about the novel coronavirus, and said that she wouldn’t want to appear with her again. Harsh.

“What were your thoughts on Elisabeth Hasselbeck co-hosting The View and saying that we should, ‘Pray the virus away?'” asked host Andy Cohen, reading a fan question. On March 11 — The View‘s first show without an audience — Hasselbeck vehemently defended President Trump’s coronavirus response, insisting that he has taken “early, strong, bold actions” to combat the pandemic. She also urged viewers to “pray that this coronavirus is extinguished,” a statement that was met with eye rolls from the rest of the co-hosts.

Yeah, somebody actually sent me a screenshot of my face when she said that,” McCain told Cohen on Wednesday night. “I took this virus seriously from the very beginning, and I thought a lot of this rhetoric was really dangerous.”

McCain added that it’s “really, really unfortunate” that Hasselbeck claimed that the virus can be prayed away when that isn’t actually the case. “I don’t need to co-host with her again,” she said. “It’s unfortunate because I’ve been a huge fan for a long time, [but] anyone who’s screwing around with this virus and putting out misinformation, I just — I don’t really have a lot of time for right now.”

Hasselbeck wasn’t the only one McCain called out last night on WWHL. During a game of “White House or Housewife,” in which she and RHOBH star Erika Jayne guessed if quotes were from Real Housewives or White House members, The View co-host tore into Kellyanne Conway for publicly feuding with her husband George.

“I think it’s awful. They have four kids that are going to read this crap,” said McCain. “I don’t care if it’s their kink or whatever — I think it’s horrible … I think they’re both gross.”
