‘SNL’ Airing Another Live From Home Episode, And Fans Are Split

Viewers are about to find out if Saturday Night Live learned anything from its first at-home episode. This afternoon, SNL announced that it will be returning for another semi-live episode this Saturday, April 25 in its usual 11:30/10:30c time slot. While some fans are excited for the show’s return and want it to return to its normal weekly schedule, others would rather have SNL go dark, including one fan who insisted, “Nobody asked for this.” Ya burnt.

In a “Zoom call gone wrong” video posted to the Saturday Night Live Twitter account, Colin Jost, Aidy Bryant, Bowen Yang, and more stars reveal that the show will be retuning this weekend. One by one, the cast begins to experience technical issues, until finally, Jost happily says that SNL will go live from home yet again. “Welcome back, SNL,” he says.

“The second SNL at home,” teases a bearded Kenan Thompson. “Everyone’s back,” adds Bryant.

SNL aired its first at-home episode on April 11 with special guest star Tom Hanks. The beloved actor gave a monologue from his kitchen and explained his coronavirus symptoms. Even though he’s recovered, Hanks joked that he’s more like America’s dad than ever before, as “no one wants to be around me very long, and I make people uncomfortable.”

All in all, the first at-home episode was one of highs and lows, so it’s not surprising that fans had a pretty mixed reaction to today’s news. For every positive response to SNL‘s tweet — “A lot of the skits were very accurate and really funny to over all watch,” wrote one fan — there’s an equally negative one about how the first at-home episode was “painful to watch.” If you’re referring to Kate McKinnon’s “RBG Workout” sketch, I’d have to agree.

Saturday Night Live‘s second at-home episode airs this Saturday, April 25 at 11:30 p.m. ET / 8:30 p.m. PT.
