Former Disney Series ‘Love, Victor’ Gets Release Date, First Look From Hulu

Hulu is giving us a first look at the Love, Simon follow-up series two years after the original film was released. The streaming service revealed a scene from Love, Victor today, and it doesn’t exactly adhere to the coffee shop meet-cute rules of romantic comedies.

The clip shared by Hulu shows Victor (Michael Cimino) crushing hard on barista Benji (George Sear) when he applies for a job at the coffee shop where Benji works. There’s some espresso-making, some milk frothing and an unfortunate spill that causes Victor to leave the shop altogether in embarrassment. For the record, Benji didn’t seem to mind, but you can watch for yourself in the trailer above.

Love, Victor moved to Hulu from its first home on Disney+ back in February with reports that it was too mature for the family-focused streaming service. The show follows Victor, a student at Creekwood High School, as he faces his own problems with his family at home, explores his sexuality and tries to navigate life in a new city. Love, Victor includes themes of alcohol use, marital issues and sexual exploration. The cast includes Ana Ortiz, James Martinez, Isabella Ferreira and Mateo Fernandez.

The new series comes from This Is Us executive producers and co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who also wrote the Love, Simon film. Love, Simon premiered in 2018 and is based on Becky Albertalli’s young adult novel “Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda.” Nick Robinson, who played Simon in the movie, will return to his role to narrate the Hulu series, with Victor reaching out to him as a guide to help navigate high school life.

The first 10-episode season of Love, Victor comes to Hulu during LGBTQ Pride Month on June 19.
