‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ Hits Disney+ on May 4

Star Wars day just got even better. On May 4, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will begin streaming on Disney+, two months ahead of its regularly-scheduled streaming premiere date. The addition of The Rise of Skywalker to Disney+ means that for the first time ever, fans will be able to stream the complete Skywalker saga in one place, as well as The Mandalorian, animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was originally slated to hit Disney+ in summer 2020, but in honor of Star Wars day — “May the fourth be with you” — the film will be dropping early. The 2019 epic is part of Disney+’s larger Star Wars day programming push: in addition to Star Wars: TROS, Disney’s streaming service will also be releasing making-of docuseries, Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, and the series finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

In addition to these new titles, Disney+ will be celebrating Star Wars‘ legacy with a week-long takeover on the service. According to Disney, the takeover will function “like a commemorative gallery,” with each film and series’ artwork getting a May 4 update to feature its original concept paintings. On web and connected TV devices, Disney+’s Star Wars brand title will also get a new animation to honor the “signature hyperspace jump.”

Originally released in December 2019, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker concludes the epic Skywalker story in a thrilling final installment. The film follows Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) as they lead the Resistance’s final stand against Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the First Order, who are now aligned with galactic emperor Palpatine. The 2019 film also stars Mark Hamill in his original role as Luke Skywalker, as well as the late Carrie Fisher, who appears digitally through repurposed footage from The Force Awakens.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be available to stream May 4 on Disney+. May the fourth be with you!
