‘Camp Getaway’ Is Like Three of Your Favorite Bravo Shows Rolled Into One

There’s a chance that Bravo knows you better than you know you, and that will become very apparent when you start watching (and we all know you will) the network’s newest show Camp Getaway. The new series is about a group of counselors or “social coordinators” at a camp in Connecticut. During the week, this camp is for children, as, you know, most camps are. But on the weekends, it’s the adults’ (and let’s prepare to use that term quite loosely) turn: the social coordinators come in, along with a new bunch of campers, looking for equal doses of nostalgia and drama during their stay.

Camp Getaway comes to us from the producers of Southern Charm, a group that knows a thing or two about Peter Pan syndrome. But where Camp Getaway excels is by not just stopping there: the show also combines elements of Bravo faves Summer House and Below Deck to basically make this a fool-proof series. It will remind you of Summer House because each episode covers city dwellers busting out to the burbs over the course of one weekend: the parties, the flirting, and the disagreements that occur over those eventful 48-hours. It will remind you of Below Deck because different guests, along with their demands, come in each week as the staff does their best to please their guests. In the first episode alone there’s already a stern conversation about obeying your boss vs. what the guests request. Sound familiar?

The social coordinators stay the same each week and are the people we can’t help but become invested in. Their job is to be the first ones on the dance floor, the ones starting conversations and introducing people, and then dipping out to let the guests interact on their own. But guess what? That means it’s time for the social coordinators to do their own socializing. And while some of these social coordinators seem a lot more eager to be on TV than to partake in archery activities, isn’t that…what we want from them anyway?

If you identify as a “camp person” I suspect there is a lot that you’re going to love about this series. I personally am not at all a camp person, I was more of a “stay home in the AC” person and am currently a “yeah activities are cool but have you ever tried just getting drunk and causing drama?” person. But okay, if they want to do lake swimming, I’ll still watch. Apparently Camp Getaway is also a very educational program because we learn that camp is NOT just about “sunshine, smores, and smiles” — who knew!

I can’t tell if watching people interact with each other — and outside! — is enjoyable or just plain masochistic at this point, but considering this show is the only camp and/or getaway most of us will be experiencing this year, sign me up and get me my matching t-shirt now because I’m all in.

Camp Getaway premieres Monday, May 4 at 10pm ET/PT on Bravo.
