No, You Can’t Audition for the ‘Percy Jackson’ Disney Plus Series — Yet

Buckle up, demigods! Yesterday, Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan revealed that the beloved fantasy franchise will be making its way to the small screen in a Disney Plus live-action series. The Percy Jackson Disney Plus news ignited the books’ passionate fanbase, which has been begging for another adaptation since Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters was released in 2013. It may have taken seven years, but you finally did it, guys!

With the Percy Jackson series on Disney Plus in the early stages of development, fans are naturally curious about how to audition for the new show. Will there be Percy Jackson Disney Plus auditions? What about a Percy Jackson casting call?

You’ve got questions, and we’ve got answers. Here’s everything you need to know about the Percy Jackson Disney Plus series.

WHAT IS THE PERCY JACKSON SERIES ON DISNEY PLUS ABOUT?

According to Riordan, the Disney Plus Percy Jackson series will follow the same storyline as the five books in his Percy Jackson & the Olympians series (The Lightning ThiefThe Sea of MonstersThe Titan’s CurseThe Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian). Riordan said that Season 1 of the live-action show will follow the events of The Lightning Thief, and subsequent seasons will tackle plot lines from the other books.

WHO IS BEHIND THE PERCY JACKSON DISNEY PLUS SERIES?

Rest assured, Percy Jackson fans: Rick Riordan and his wife Becky will be intimately involved in the Disney Plus series. This is different from the two Percy Jackson films released in 2010 and 2013, which were directed by Chris Columbus and Thor Freudenthal, respectively, and were panned by critics and viewers alike. Riordan has been open about his limited involvement on both films, writing in 2018, “I never saw either of the movies in their final form.”

WILL THERE BE PERCY JACKSON DISNEY PLUS AUDITIONS?

As of now, Disney Plus has yet to announce any Percy Jackson auditions, as the show is still in the early stages of development. But that said, “There will be much more news in the future,” promises Riordan.

WHAT’S WITH THE 2017 PERCY JACKSON AUDITIONS AND PERCY JACKSON CASTING CALL?

Time to clear up some confusion. In 2017, a group of teenagers posted a public audition notice for a “Percy Jackson webseries based on Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson books.” The high school-aged producers were looking to cast actors in the New England area for a variety of different supporting roles, including Connor and Travis Stoll, Will Solace, and Michael Yew.

While there are a variety of different Percy Jackson web series online, it seems that this particular one was successful: Dreamers Entertainment released the 15-episode series in 2017-2018. Check out the first episode, “Camp Half-Blood,” below.
