Trevor Noah Explores the Safest Way to Hug: “A Full Body Condom”

Trevor Noah has just the thing for people desperately in need of a hug during these trying times. On Thursday night, The Daily Show host highlighted a video of two Canadian women who used plastic sheeting to give each other a socially-distant hug on Mother’s Day. Noah loved the “heartwarming” idea, and he encouraged viewers to find their own ways to practice safe hugging — even if it requires wearing a giant condom.

Last night, Noah took a break from his usual Trump commentary to highlight some of the best apolitical stories from around the internet. The Comedy Central host kicked things off with a video of a Canadian woman who created a “hug glove” — basically a plastic sheet with sleeves it — in order to safely hug her mom on Mother’s Day.

“Canada, the only country where syrup has legal rights, and where one family found love in a hopeless place,” said Noah. “I don’t want to cry, but this is the sweetest story of a grandma in a full body condom that I’ve ever heard.”

“Seriously, though, this is a heartwarming invention,” he continued. “It’s wonderful for that family, and it’s also wonderful for shower curtains. Because think about it: normally, shower curtains see us at our worst. We’re naked, we’re cleaning our butt, we’re singing off key. But now, this one shower curtain got outside to see that humans are not all bad.”

While Noah may be in favor of the shower curtain-as-condom-as-hug-machine, he admitted that people might start using it in more nefarious ways. “Now, grandmas are getting hugged,” said The Daily Show host, “But soon, two guys out at the bar are just going to be like, ‘What did you say to me? Oh hell no, hell no, get him into the plastic man, let’s handle this shit like men! Get into the plastic!'”

Honestly, Noah could have described an American Horror Story Rubber Man-style scene instead, so I’ll happily take a condom-covered bar fight. There’s no need to start the weekend thinking about Rubber Man.
