Jonah Hill and ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ Top List of Most Foul-Mouthed Films

If there were an Oscars of cursing, Jonah Hill would be flush with statues. According to a new study conducted by Buzz BingoThe Wolf of Wall Street and Superbad star swears the most on-screen of any film actor. The study counts that Hill has sworn 376 times throughout his career, with many of those expletives coming in Martin Scorsese’s 2013 black comedy, the most swear-filled film of all time. F*cking congrats are in order.
Last week, Buzz Bingo released an in-depth study about profanity in film. The study analyzed more than 3,500 film scripts to establish which films and actors are the most foul-mouthed overall. According to Buzz Bingo’s results, Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street is the most expletive-filled movie in history with 715 total swears. In second place is Uncut Gems with 646 expletives, followed by another Scorsese flick, Casino (606 swears), and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (509).
While The Wolf of Wall Street and Uncut Gems have the most swears overall, Gary Oldman’s 1997 drama Nil by Mouth has the highest number of expletives per 1,000 words at 41.3. Considering Ray’s (Ray Winstone) many violent outbursts, that makes sense.
When it comes to the f*cking greatest swearers in movie history, Jonah Hill takes the cake. Buzz Bingo estimates that Hill’s characters have cursed a total of 376 times, or 22.9 times per 1,000 words. Hill’s Wolf of Wall Street co-star Leonardo DiCaprio sits just behind him with 361 total expletives, and Samuel L. Jackson (301 swears) and Adam Sandler (295 swears) follow. The rest of Buzz Bingo’s list includes prominent on-screen cursers like Al Pacino, Denzel Washington, Billy Bob Thornton, and Seth Rogen.
Shortly after Buzz Bingo’s study was released, Hill thanked his fans and producers in a lighthearted Instagram post. “Martin Scorsese, thanks for pushing me over the edge,” he said of his Wolf of Wall Street director. “And of course the great Samuel L. Jackson. Humbled.”
