Former President Barack Obama was the undisputed ratings king on Saturday night with his Graduate Together special event. According to The TV Ratings Guide, Obama’s Graduate Together was watched by a total of 7.35 million viewers across the four major networks and The CW. The virtual ceremony also nabbed a combined 1.4 rating, a figure that puts it above almost every other broadcast program that aired throughout the week. Saturday Night Live says, “Thanks, Obama.”
According to The TV Ratings Guide, Nielsen reports that Obama’s Graduate Together was the most-watched program on Saturday night, leading SNL‘s Bill Murray-hosted replay, CBS’ 48 Hours, Dateline, and ESPN on ABC. The at-home graduation received average ratings on each individual network (ABC, Fox, NBC, CBS, and The CW), but when combined, it came in fourth overall place for the week. With a 1.4 combined rating in the key adult demo, Graduate Together nabbed more viewers than everything on broadcast television except The Masked Singer, Disney Family Singalong 2, and the Survivor season finale.
Saturday’s ratings also reveal that the bulk of Graduate Together‘s 7.35 total viewers watched on ABC (2.25 million viewers from 8 to 9 p.m. ET) or NBC (2.17 million viewers). CBS was also a popular option with 1.89 million average viewers, while Fox and The CW came in much lower with 670,000 and 370,000 viewers, respectively.
After Graduate Together, NBC found success with a Dateline repeat (2.32 million viewers) and a vintage SNL episode from 1993 (2.28 million). CBS’ 48 Hours also drew solid ratings (2.20 million viewers), but Fox and ABC fared less well. ABC’s replay of Kobe Bryant’s final NBA game drew a measly 820,000 viewers, while Fox’s Celebrity Watch Party repeat nabbed 720,000.
The TV Ratings Guide’s numbers are merely estimates, but Nielsen’s complete, updated numbers are expected to be released soon. When the final Obama Graduate Together ratings are released, expect a tweet from President Donald Trump.
