‘The Last Dance’ To Premiere on ABC In Encore Presentation

After a record-breaking run on ESPN, The Last Dance is getting a second home at ABC. The network announced today that Michel Jordan‘s documentary series will air in an encore presentation starting this weekend on May 23. Much like the original premiere on ESPN, The Last Dance will run over the course of five weeks on ABC, with two episodes airing each week.

The Last Dance follows Jordan and his 1990s Chicago Bulls teammates in their quest to win their sixth NBA championship during the 1997-1998 season, and takes viewers behind the scenes with never-before-seen footage and moments from off the court that were never revealed before.

The series was a major hit for ESPN. Sports fans tuned in at record numbers from the first episode during a time when live sports are canceled across the country. The Last Dance first premiered on ESPN April 19 after it was pushed up in the programming schedule (the series was initially planned for a June debut this year), and the docuseries aired its final episode last Sunday. The series was exclusively available on ESPN, ESPN+ and Netflix outside of the United States. The ABC announcement marks the first time The Last Dance will be available on a different platform.

ABC is also airing a The Last Dance special before it premieres the show later this week. Tonight, Whoopi Goldberg, Shaquille O’Neal, Robin Roberts, Anthony Anderson and Magic Johnson will join After the Dance with Stephen A. Smith: A SportsCenter Special at 8/7c on ABC.

The arrival of The Last Dance on ABC doesn’t come as a huge surprise since it shares a parent company with ESPN — both networks are owned by Disney. Check out the full schedule for The Last Dance on ABC below:
