New Shows & Movies To Watch This Weekend: The Final Season of Netflix's 'Vikings: Valhalla' + More
Netflix is starting off the summer movie season with a big, flashy action film. The streamer released the trailer for The Last Days of American Crime today, and it packs in plenty of guns, thievery, mischief and car chases in just a two-minute long preview. The upcoming movie is based on the graphic novel by Rick Remender and Greg Tocchini, and Edgar Ramírez, Michael Pitt and Anna Brewster play characters living in the distant future of America.
The Last Days of American Crime is set in a time when the government, desperate to put a stop to the crime and chaos ravaging the country, has developed a signal to stop anyone from committing an illegal act. They plan to send the signal out to the masses and end all of the violence and disruption plaguing society, but a group of criminals hatches a plan to get one last heist in before anarchy is put to an end.
Graham Bricke (Ramírez) learns about the signal from a much more successful gangster named Kevin Cash (Pitt) when he is trying to rob a bank but is halted by the tone ringing out in the building. “That signal freezes you,” Kevin explains in the trailer. “They used the signal to kill your bother,” he tells Graham. “I want to use it to steal their money.”
Armed with the knowledge of the government’s plan and motivated by revenge, Kevin and Graham team up with a hacker, Shelby Dupree (Brewster), to commit the last epic crime and steal $30 million before the signal is sent out. “You can have money, but when you pull off the last crime in American history, that’s legacy,” Kevin says.
The graphic novel the film is based on was published in 2009 by Radical Studios, who is co-producing the movie with Mandalay Pictures and Netflix. The Last Days of American Crime also stars Patrick Bergin and Sharlto Copley.
The Last Days of American Crime comes to Netflix June 5. Watch the full trailer in the video above.
