Wendy Williams Takes Hiatus Due to Symptoms Caused by Graves’ Disease

The Wendy Williams Show will be going on hiatus as the daytime host battles fatigue caused by Graves’ syndrome. According to Variety, Wendy Williams‘ syndicated talk show will be on hiatus at least through this week, with repeats airing during the show’s regular time slot. The Wendy Williams Show has yet to set a return date, but a spokesperson for the show said that they are optimistic the host will return soon.

Williams has been filming episodes of The Wendy Williams Show at home due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Variety reports that complications from Graves’ disease have made that increasingly difficult. The talk show host first announced her diagnosis in early 2018, and she has been open with viewers about her struggle in the years since. According to the NIH, Graves’ disease is an autoimmune condition that causes the immune system to attack the thyroid, often leading to hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).

“Recently, Wendy has been dealing with symptoms from her Graves’ disease which is causing fatigue. In consultation with her doctor and as a precautionary measure, she will be taking some time off as she continues to receive treatment,” a spokesperson for the show told Variety. “We look forward to welcoming Wendy back soon and continuing the Wendy@Home shows. More updates on a return date will follow.”

According to Variety, Williams also took a hiatus from the show after announcing her Graves’ diagnosis. In February 2018, the talk show host took a three-week break after her doctor recommended that she take a step back from filming to focus on her health. The following year, Williams went on a six-week hiatus due to complications stemming from shoulder surgery. A few months later, in March 19, Williams revealed that she had been staying in a sober-living house after a years-long struggle with cocaine and drug abuse.

Feel better soon, Wendy Williams! The daytime talk show landscape needs you.
