Woman Crush Wednesday: Truth Is, We Love Yvette Nicole Brown

It may be getting harder and harder to keep track of what day of the week (or even what month) it is, but have no fear, because you’ve got your weekly Woman Crush Wednesday to help keep you on track, not only orienting you date-wise in this wild world, but also clueing you into some of the coolest ladies with impressive new work coming out right now. This week we’re celebrating a hilarious, brilliant, conscientious, and hard-working actress who we’re sure you’ve seen around before, and who you definitely will continue to see for many years to come. Everybody give it up for our WCW, the fantastic Yvette Nicole Brown!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Yvette Nicole Brown

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Brown produces and hosts brand new Disney+ game show series, The Big Fib, in which each episode features two new grown-up guests who claim to be experts on a topic and one of them is lying. It’ll be up to our kid contestant to try and figure out which one is telling “the big fib.” The series premieres on Disney+ this Friday, May 22nd, and is already getting positive press from TV GuideThe Hollywood PressDeadline, and more. A fun, family-friendly new show led by Brown being her charming, lovely self? Count us in!

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Brown has amassed a wide array of credits during her impressive career in film and television, and it all began in 2000 with her on-screen debut in drama film His Woman, His Wife, and in 2002 with a small role in Lifetime legal drama series For The People. From there, Brown took off running, working steadily and hard, appearing in big-name films like critically acclaimed 2006 musical drama Dreamgirls, 2008 action satire Tropic Thunder, 2009 romantic-comedy drama 500 Days of Summer, 2013 action fantasy Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, 2019 superhero blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, and 2019 live-action musical Lady and the Tramp, as well as hit television shows like Curb Your EnthusiasmThe OfficeFamily GuyBoJack HorsemanThe Young and the Restless, and Mom (And that’s barely scraping the surface of all the amazing thing this wonderful woman has done!).

Perhaps the two performances for which Brown is best known, however, are her major roles in two comedies (which were both beloved by me and my family grown up), as intimidating, Drake-loving (and, of course, Josh-hating) movie theater manager Helen Dubois in hit Nickelodeon sitcom Drake & Josh, and as sweet, devout mother of three (who also can have quite the temper) Shirley Bennett in the brilliant NBC sitcom Community (which recently has a Zoom reunion table read), and for which she won a Gracie Award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Comedy. Brown is a delight and a multi-talented (She sings! She produces! She writes! WHAT CAN’T SHE DO?!) and we’re excited to keep up with what is sure to continue to be an incredible and long career.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Brown continues to work her butt off, as we’re lucky enough to be seeing her appear in a whole slew of upcoming projects, including adventure-drama-horror series Witching Hour, drama film Broken Diamonds, mystery TV movie Blind Psychosis, and sports dramedy series Big Shot, and also is an associate producer on upcoming dramedy film Definition, Please, so we have a lot from her to look forward to. For even more of Brown, you can check out her Twitter, Instagram, and website.
