New Movies on Demand: ‘The High Note,’ ‘The Hunt,’ ‘Never Rarely Sometimes Always’ and More

Time to say buh-bye to the week and say hello to another weekend! Now that the weather is boasting constant warm temperatures it’s time to throw on some shorts, fire up the grill and do whatever the heck you want (within reason for all those parents out there) for the next blissful 48 hours. Does that include having a movie night? We hope so! Whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu or your cable’s on demand service, there are a lot of new releases out there waiting for you to discover.

I’m not going to pretend that this week’s movie lineup is overwhelmingly paralyzing, but there are definitely some hit titles that are worth checking out! The musical drama film The High Note starring Tracee Ellis Ross, Dakota Johnson and Ice Cube is now out for the first time and available to rent at your leisure. And if you’re looking for a more action-packed, adrenaline-pumping thriller then be sure to check out The Hunt, which after its initial debut back in March is now available for purchase on demand. In addition another early release Never Rarely Sometimes Always is now available for purchase, and Percy Jackson star Logan Lerman embarks on an emotional father-son journey in End of Sentence.

Curious about what else is out there? Check out what other great films you can buy or rent this week.

The High Note

Dakota Johnson and Tracee Ellis Ross star in The High Note, a musical drama just released to the world today. The film centers on two people on opposite sides of the L.A. music scene: Grace Davis, an egotistic superstar and Maggie, Grace’s lowly, overlooked personal assistant. But when Grace’s manager (Ice Cube) steers the star toward an opportunity that could forever change the course of her career, the constricted singer finds freshness in Maggie and so the duo come up with a plan that could change both of their lives forever. If The High Note‘s inspiring and uplifting story do not have you hooked then the music in this film certainly will do the trick!

The Hunt

The Hunt is a horror thriller film that played perhaps the most twisted cat-and-mouse game ever. The movie centers on a group of strangers who suddenly wake up in the middle of the woods, unaware that they are now the prey in a sadistic hunt held by a group of globalist elites for sport. Yes, you read that correctly: this group of elitists gather for the very first time at a remote manor to hunt humans for sport. But the elites’ master plan gets derailed because unbeknownst to them, one of the hunted (Betty Gilpin) knows the Hunters’ game better than they do. This wolf in sheep’s clothing uses her knowledge and skill to turn the game on its head, picking off the killers one by one, until she can get to the enigmatic woman at the center of it all. Starring Hilary Swank, Emma Roberts, Ike Barinholtz and more, The Hunt works to not only entertain but also provide social commentary through its satirical plot.

The Rewrite

Hugh Grant and Marisa Tomei star in the romantic comedy, The Rewrite. It tells the story of a washed-up screenwriter named Keith (Grant), whose divorce and latest string of bad films forces him to reluctantly take a university teaching job in upstate New York. Initially planning to exert minimal effort into his new position to instead focus on his new script, Keith soon finds himself slowly investing in his students, especially a single mother (Tomei) who is looking to restart her life. Also starring Allison Janney, Chris Elliot and J.K. Simmons, The Rewrite is a cute film that has all the stammering, witty and charming Hugh Grant-ness that we love best.
