Though HGTV’s beloved renovation show Good Bones is set to return this June, is it returning without one of its two leads? If you’ve been wondering if Karen E Laine is leaving Good Bones Season 5, we have you covered.

Good Bones puts an adorable twist on the typical home remodeling show. The reality series revolves around the work of Two Chicks and a Hammer, a house flipping company started by mother and daughter Karen E Laine and Mina Starsiak Hawk. One day Laine was working as a defense attorney and her daughter was a part-time waitress. The next the pair were making a name for themselves while making all of Indiana a bit more cozy. Here’s what’s going on with Karen’s departure and why you don’t need to fret about losing her just yet.

Is Karen Leaving Good Bones?

Though it might seem like Karen E Laine is departing from the show, don’t worry, she’s not! Laine is leaving the company she started with her daughter to retire, but not Good Bones.

“After a long career of practicing law and revitalizing homes and neighborhoods, Karen is retiring from Two Chicks and a Hammer,” the company’s Instagram announced back in September of 2019. But don’t fret too much. Just because Laine won’t be a part of her daughter’s company, she’ll still be starring as a series regular on Good Bones!

Laine’s daughter and co-founder, Mina Starsiak Hawk, addressed her mom’s departure on her own Instagram. Paired with a lovely photo of the two of them, Starsiak Hawk wrote, “I can’t say thanks to mom enough for her help in creating Two Chicks and a Hammer. I can say, without a doubt, it wouldn’t have been possible without her and not nearly as fun. Although she is taking a step back from the day to day operations, a piece of her will always live on with this company as we carry on with our mission of ‘revitalizing Indianapolis one property at a time.'”

And of course Laine made an announcement about her upcoming departure. Taking to Two Chicks and a Hammer’s blog she wrote, “I have complete confidence that the company Mina and I founded, based on the novel idea of improving neighborhoods by rehabilitating the worst houses in a neighborhood, one house at a time, has a bright future! I won’t be far, and will likely just be puttering in the yard!”

Basically Karen E Laine is leaving her company to spend time with loved ones and chickens while tackling DIY projects — but she won’t be leaving our screens any time soon!
