Dick Wolf Fires ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Writer for Threatening to “Light Up” Protestors

Television writer Craig Gore has been fired from Dick Wolf‘s upcoming Law & Order: SVU spinoff over a controversial Facebook post in which he threatened to attack Los Angeles-area protestors. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gore posted a photo of himself armed with an assault weapon on Monday night and wrote that he plans to “light motherfuckers up” should they come near his home. Wolf Entertainment promptly fired the writer this afternoon, tweeting, “I will not tolerate this conduct, especially during our hour of national grief.”

Last night, Gore posted a photo to his Facebook page that shows him standing outside his West Hollywood home with a large assault weapon. In a comment, the former Law & Order writer added that “Sunset is being looted two blocks” away, and if protestors attempt to “fuck w/ my property I worked all my life for,” he will retaliate.

THR reports that Gore was hired as a writer on the SVU spinoff in May, two months after NBC picked up the project. Gore previously served as a co-executive producer and writer on Wolf’s Chicago P.D. and CBS drama S.W.A.T.

Gore has since locked down his Facebook account, but screenshots of the post, as well as another that identifies him as a staffer on Christopher Meloni’s new Law & Order: SVU spinoff series, began circulating online early Tuesday. At first, the viral tweet incorrectly identified Gore as a showrunner, but user Drew Janda later clarified that he is a “co-executive producer,” while The Hollywood Reporter identified him as a writer on the series.

Meloni, for his part, later said that the new SVU showrunner is Matt Olmstead, a Chicago P.D. co-creator. “I have no idea who this person is or what they do,” Meloni said of Gore.

Just a few hours after Meloni sounded off on the controversy, Dick Wolf took swift action against Gore. “I am terminating Craig Gore immediately,” tweeted Wolf Entertainmnent.

Twitter users applauded Wolf’s move — including Ice T. “The Big Boss is cleaning house,” he tweeted. “RESPECT.”

Decider has reached out to Craig Gore’s representative for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
