Shirley

Elisabeth Moss stars in Shirley, the the biographical drama about renowned horror writer Shirley Jackson. The film tells the story of the titular character writer who is on the brink of writing her biggest masterpiece when a young, innocent newlywed couple become guests in her and her husband’s home. While in many horror stories the interloper is the one who causes matrimonial distress, in this case Shirley and her philandering husband begin to turn their already-tense relationship away from one another and instead choose to toy with the naive newlyweds under their roof. How far will this writer go for a good horror story? Find out in Shirley.

Body Cam

Mary J. Blige stars in Body Cam, a mystery horror film that takes crazy body cam footage to a whole other level. When a routine traffic stop results in the grisly death of her comrade, a cop (Blige) looks into his death, only coming to the strange realization that the body cam footage will play for her eyes only. But as more attacks follow, she must race against time and to understand the supernatural forces behind them. If you didn’t assume by now, this is not your typical cop film.

Just Mercy

One of the best movies to watch right now (and for free!) is Just Mercy. Just Mercy is a moving film about one man’s battle for justice in a system that has been against them from the start. Based on a true story, this drama follows the story of a young lawyer named Bryan Stevenson (played by Michael B. Jordan) who is sent to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were not afforded proper representation the first time. His first case? To represent Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), a convicted murderer given a death sentence for a crime he claims he did not commit. In order to get justice for McMillian and other men like him, Bryan must maneuver the labyrinth of legal and political systems and combat the blatant and unapologetic racism that follows them everywhere. All they want is Just Mercy. And, in light of the current movement catching momentum around the globe, iTunes is offering Just Mercy not for $0.99, but for free!
