Dakota Johnson’s ‘Rodeo Queens’ Mockumentary in the Works at Amazon

In a competitive situation with multiple outlets bidding, Dakota Johnson is attached to star in and executive produce a mockumentary series currently in the works at Amazon.

Titled Rodeo Queens, the series follows an ensemble of Rodeo Queen hopefuls as they compete for the coveted crown. A writers’ room for the series will open soon, with a full series order expected.

Christy Hall created the series and will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Carrie Brownstein will executive produce and direct. Ro Donnelly and Elisa Ellis will also executive produce along with Johnson. Amazon Studios will produce along with Platform One Media in association with Johnson and Donnelly’s TeaTime Pictures. TeaTime Pictures is currently under a first-look deal at Platform One Media.

The show would mark a return to TV for Johnson, who previously starred on the Fox comedy series Ben and Kate. Beyond that, Johnson is best known for her film roles, including starring in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise. Her other roles include recent projects like The Peanut Butter Falcon, Bad Times at the El Royale, and Black Mass.

She is repped by WME, Lighthouse Management & Media, and Ziffren Brittenham.

Hall most recently co-created the Netflix series I Am Not Okay with This. Brownstein is known for co-creating, starring in, and directing the critically-acclaimed comedy series Portlandia. Her other TV directing credits include AP Bio, Mrs. Fletcher, and Shrill.

Hall is repped by LBI Entertainment and Morris Yorn. Brownstein is repped by UTA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
