‘NOS4A2’: Charlie Manx Is Dead in This Exclusive Sneak Peek at Season 2

Charlie Manx (Zachary Quinto) is dead, Vic McQueen (Ashleigh Cummings) is happy, and the second season of AMC’s NOS4A2 is probably about five minutes long, if Decider’s exclusive sneak peek at the premiere is to be believed.

Only, of course Manx can’t be dead. The vicious, magical serial killer played by Quinto is going to return to threaten Vic once again, almost a decade after the first season ended. Until then, though, we can enjoy this clip, titled “Who Is Charlie Manx,” as we rejoin Vic in a scene from the Season 2 premiere, “Bad Mother.”

As Season 1 ended, Vic had set Manx’s magical car The Wraith on fire, returning the villain to a decrepit, older state and locking him in a coma. It came at a high cost, though, as her boyfriend Craig (Dalton Harrod) was locked in Manx’s car, and died. Physically and mentally destroyed by her battle with Manx, Vic gave up her dreams of art school and instead shacked up with Lou Carmody (Jonathan Langdon), the nerdy biker who helped save her life during Manx’s “final” attack.

Oh, and also Vic was pregnant with Craig’s baby.

Eight-ish years later and Vic is doing art, of a sort. She’s airbrushing bikes to the tune of “Can I Go On” by Sleater-Kinney, romancing Lou, and joking around with her adorable son Bruce Wayne McQueen (Jason David) about playing video games. It’s the typical happy, carefree family dynamic, far from cars that suck the life-force out of children, and even the bike that allowed Vic to travel nearly instantly between locations on earth in order to find lost things.

This idyll is shattered, though, by three simple words from Wayne: “Who’s Charlie Manx?”

Vic, nearly frozen, watches the news report mentioned by Wayne, which explains that Charlie Manx died in his prison hospital bed, before flashing back to that fateful moment when she killed Craig to stop Manx.

Of course, there’s plenty more story to tell as Manx and Vic once again come to blows in this battle of good versus evil, so don’t count everyone’s favorite, Christmas obsessed driver down and out yet. How Manx escapes death, and whether Vic stops him, once again? You’ll have to tune into the Season 2 premiere on Sunday, June 21 at 9/8c on AMC to find out. And watch the clip above for plenty more.
