Andy Samberg Flirts Via Time Loop in Hulu’s ‘Palms Springs’ Trailer

Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti in a time loop-based romantic comedy? Take my money right this instant!

The Palm Springs trailer—which you can watch above—dropped on Tuesday. The romantic comedy stars Samberg as an apathetic guest stuck in a time loop at a fancy Palm Springs wedding, and Milioti as the conflicted maid of honor who gets stuck alongside him. The good news for those of you chomping at the bit to see this spin on Groundhog Day ASPA is that, if you have a Hulu subscription, you’ll be able to stream the film for free on Friday, July 10th. (No taking of money required!) The film will also open in select drive-thru theaters on that date.

Directed by Max Barbakow and written by Andy Siara, and produced by Samberg and his Lonely Island buddies—Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone—Palm Springs made a splash (pun intended) at Sundance Film Festival in January. The film was the festival’s biggest sale ever, going to Hulu and Neon for $17,500,000.69. (Don’t tell me that 69 cents number wasn’t on purpose, Samberg. I see you.) The trailer doesn’t bother to cover up the sci-fi premise. “It’s one of those infinite time loop situations you might have heard about,” Samberg’s character, Nyles, informs Milioti’s character, Sarah. And what do you when you find yourself in an infinite time loop situation? You waste some time!

The trailer shows Samberg and Milioti engaging in a number of classic time loop shenanigans, including skydiving, shooting guns, doing drugs with J.K. Simmons, and, of course, falling in love in the meantime. It’s an absurd comedy with a heart, and I have no doubt Palm Springs will bring some joy to this otherwise very weird summer movie season.

Palm Springs stars Samberg, Milioti, Simmons, Meredith Hagner, Camila Mendes, Tyler Hoechlin, and Peter Gallagher, and is produced by Limelight and Lonely Island Classics with Neon serving as the theatrical distributor.
