‘Below Deck Mediterranean’ Fires Peter Hunziker For Racist Social Media Post

Bravo announced today that Below Deck Mediterranean cast member Peter Hunziker has been terminated from the series, and his presence on the show will be minimized in the back half of the season.

A statement from the network and production company, 51 Minds, reads, “Peter Hunziker of Below Deck Mediterranean has been terminated for his racist post. Bravo and 51 Minds are editing the show to minimize his appearance for subsequent episodes.”

Hunziker is currently a deckhand on Season 5 of the Bravo series, which has aired three episodes so far this season, but after he posted a racist meme on his social media, the network decided to cut ties. Bravo also fired Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Brett Caprioni, and Max Boyens from Vanderpump Rules earlier this month for past racial discretions, proving that the network is not playing around and has no hesitation to make the appropriate moves during the Black Lives Matter movement.

Below Deck Mediterranean typically films in early fall in Europe (this season takes place in Spain), so while the season has already been filmed, the show’s producers and editors are currently in post-production and working tirelessly on cutting the show together for our enjoyment, which also includes limiting the amount we’ll see of the ignorant deckhand.

So far this season, Hunziker has mostly referred to his boss, bosun Malia White, as a “sweetie” or “sweetheart,” which earned him a reprimanding from Captain Sandy in the last episode. He also tried and failed to make a connection with stewardess Lara, who quit the show in the last episode as well, and cried about her departure, though he could’ve used some of that sensitivity before recently using his social media apps.

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Monday at 9pm ET/PT on Bravo.
