Stonewall Day Livestream to Include Former President Obama, Taylor Swift

Pride was canceled this year, but the celebration isn’t stopping. Pride Live announced the lineup for their Stonewall Day Streaming event today and it’s packed with big names, including former President Barack Obama.

Obama, who will deliver a speech to the LGBTQ community during the event, will be joined by plenty of other stars. Pride Live lists Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Cynthia Erivo, Kesha, Hayley Kiyoko, Katy Perry, Christian Siriano, George Takei, Donatella Versace and Chelsea Clinton as guests at the virtual event, which will be hosted by Trans advocate and model Geena Rocero.

Pride Live’s Stonewall Day first began in 2018 as a commemoration of the 1969 Stonewall Riots anniversary and as a celebration of the LGBTQ community. This year’s event also falls on the five-year anniversary of Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court ruling for marriage equality.

Stonewall Day will raise money LGBTQ organizations affected by the coronavirus pandemic, including Trans LifelineBrave Space AllianceTransLatina Coalition and The Ally Coalition.

“COVID-19, and the recent events that have placed a national and global spotlight on the need for fair and equal treatment for all people, has impacted so many around the world and the LGBTQ+ community has not been immune,” Dr. Yvette C. Burton, the president of the Pride Live board of directors, said in a statement. “Our hopes are Stonewall Day can assist our beneficiaries in continuing their work and service to the community.”
