‘The Bachelorette’ Set to Restart Production After Months-Long Pause

The Bachelorette is back in business. After pausing production in March, the reality dating show is set to resume filming, Variety reports. Although an exact date hasn’t been determined yet, The Bachelorette‘s return to production marks the first major U.S. show to pick back up after an industry-wide shutdown this past spring.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, production on The Bachelorette will look different for Season 16. Contestants and crew will have to adhere to strict safety protocols, and the cast will travel to an isolated location for the duration of the filming period.

Unlike past years where the cast travels around the world or the final contestants visit their hometowns, this season will take place in one single, quarantined spot where all cast and crew members will live. Everyone enterting will be tested, and regular temperature checks and testing will be required for cast and crew.

While the location hasn’t been revealed, a source told Variety that “the cast will start traveling very soon because there has to be a quarantine period.”

The Bachelorette producers believe the show is lower risk than other productions because it can easily keep all of the cast members in one isolated place, unlike some scripted shows that shoot on studio lots. But, safety precautions for The Bachelorette are expected to be conservative and vigorous, especially because cast members come in close contact.

“We obviously can’t shoot a dating show with people in close quarters where people aren’t cleared and we know everything is safe,” another source said. “It will be a super safe paradise for everyone to shoot the show.”

Press and visitors will not be allowed to come on set, so production will be sealed off from anyone outside of the filming location.

When ABC unveiled its fall 2020-21 lineup earlier this month, it announced that The Bachelorette would be returning to TV this fall. Although ABC did not confirm an official premiere date, it did schedule a Tuesday 8/7c slot for the show, which will follow Clare Crawley‘s search for love.
