‘30 Rock’: Tina Fey Skewers Non-Mask Wearers in Reunion Teaser

Let’s just say that the characters of 30 Rock are not doing well in quarantine. Less than one week ahead of the 30 Rock special, NBC has released a short teaser for the hourlong event, which doubles as both a cast reunion and 2020-2021 Upfront presentation. Kabletown could learn a thing or two from Comcast/NBCUniversal’s commitment to corporate synergy.

NBC’s 30 Rock reunion teaser finds the beloved characters in lockdown from their respective homes. While Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon has turned into the mask police on the streets of New York City — “I already had corona! I was on my way to donate plasma,” says an innocent passerby — Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski), Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan), and Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) are taking a more relaxed approach to quarantine… sort of.

Apart from Liz’s “successful interaction with a man” on the street, the brief clip is short on actual footage, leaving viewers left guessing about what these characters have been up to since 30 Rock ended in 2013. That said, considering Jack’s all-white country club outfit, it’s possible (read: likely) that he fled to the Hamptons as soon as the novel coronavirus began to spread in New York City.

And yet, even from a distance, Jack is finding new ways to harass Liz. “How did you slap me?” she asks, while on the phone with her former boss. “I have the iPhone 40,” Jack replies. At least the crew is still on brand.

The NBC 30 Rock reunion special was produced entirely remotely over the past few months. Because of the show’s unique reunion-plus-Upfront status, characters from the show will appear alongside stars from 2020-2021 NBC series, as well as talent from other NBCUniversal-owned networks, including Bravo, Telemundo, USA Network, SYFY, and E!.

30 Rock‘s one-time special airs commercial-free next Thursday, July 16 at 8/7c on NBC. It will be available to stream the following day on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, and will re-air July 17 across USA, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, SYFY, and CNBC at 9/8c.
