‘Uncut Gems’ Co-stars Kevin Garnett and Adam Sandler to Develop Series About Brooklyn’s Lo Lifes

It’s an Uncut Gems reunion! Co-stars Kevin Garnett and Adam Sandler are teaming up again, this time for a TV series. Garnett and Sandler are working on their upcoming project Lo Lifes: Stealing the American Dream, a new show about the Brooklyn shoplifting crew, Deadline reports.

The Lo Lifes formed in 1988 after the marriage of two other shoplifting groups — Ralphie’s Kids from Crown Heights and Polo U.S.A. from Brownsville. The group became popular in the late ’80s, and helped spread the urban fashion phenomenon by lifting designer clothing from Tri-state area department stores.

“From their creation to their global expansion, the Lo Lifes captured the genesis of the subversive hip-hop spirit in a totally original fashion and were the original influencers,” Lo Lifes: Stealing the American Dream producers said in a statement to Deadline.

Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions, Garnett’s Content Cartel, Marc Levin’s Blowback Productions, and Village Roadshow Television are teaming up for the series. Victor “Thirstin Howl The 3rd” DeJesus, the Lo Lifes’ co-founder, will executive produce Lo Lifes with Garnett, Levin and Matt Mosko.

Garnett, who retired from the NBA after a decades-long career in 2016, most recently starred alongside Sandler in Uncut Gems, playing a fictionalized version of himself in the 2019 Safdie Brothers film. Content Cartel, his company, recently acquired production company Royal Studios LA, which has produced programs that aired in over 120 countries.

Sandler starred in the short Goldman V Silverman earlier this year, and recently joined forces with another NBA player, LeBron James. He’s set to star in HustleJames’ upcoming Netflix film about a basketball scout and a talented player trying to make it in the professional league. Sandler also has a Halloween project in the works, Halloween Hubie, coming to Netflix this year.
