Who Is Darin Olien on Zac Efron’s ‘Down to Earth’ Netflix Show?

Zac Efron is jumping head first into the travel game with his latest show, Down to Earth on Netflix. But fans who started watching Down to Earth with Zac Efron for their favorite High School Musical star may have some questions about his second in command. Who is Darin Olien, and what does he do on Down to Earth?

The eight-episode docuseries is Netflix’s latest addition to the travel genre. Each episode follows Efron and his co-host, friend, and wellness guru Darin Olien as they explore another fascinating part of the world. Their goal isn’t just to eat delicious food and hang out with awesome locals. They’re traveling to places that have developed innovative solutions to global problems. The series is all about exploring healthy, sustainable living solutions that people around the world have already mastered. If they can do it, why can’t we?

As Down to Earth‘s introduction explains, the catalyst for this series was Olien. Efron describes his friend as a “guru of healthy living and superfoods.” He wrote the 2017 guide to healthy eating SuperLife: The 5 Simple Fixes That Will Make You Healthy, Fit, and Eternally Awesome. But he’s likely best known for his lifestyle businesses. Olien was the original formulator of Shakeology as well as the co-creator of BeachBody’s plant-based Ultimate Reset 21-day detoxification program. He’s often called the “Indiana Jones of superfoods” due to his love of hunting down exotic superfoods around the world.

Together Olien and Efron make a solid traveling show team. Efron’s wide-eyed excitement about  rarely before seen foods and hydroelectric power plants pairs nicely with Olien’s worldly yet calm demeanor. Also the pair love to make fun of each other and practice their impressions no matter what geological or social masterpiece they’re witnessing. As far as traveling righthand men go, it’s hard to ask for a better one than Olien.
