‘Sabrina’ Showrunner Teases Part 5 Might Have Had a ‘Riverdale’ Crossover

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had big plans in store for Part 5 of his series before Netflix canceled it this week. The creator of CAOS revealed on Twitter yesterday (July 9) what fans would have seen in the now-canceled installment, hinting at a Riverdale crossover, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Aguirre-Sacasa, who is also the showrunner for Riverdale, shared a message with his followers about CAOS Part 5, not long after Netflix announced the series wouldn’t be returning after Part 4. “Part Four is our best yet and Part Five, ‘Witch War,’ would’ve been AMAZING,” he wrote. “To be continued in the pages of #CAOS comic book.”

Aguirre-Sacasa, who created the Sabrina comics, shared an image teasing a possible crossover between characters of the two shows, which both take place in the same universe. “The witches of Riverdale are coming,” reads the comic, which shows both Riverdale and Sabrina characters.

The now-canceled Part 5 of CAOS would not have been the first time the series has mixed with Riverdale. In fact, the characters are never too far from one another — Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) and her friends live in Greendale, which is right near Sweetwater River and bordering the town of Riverdale. In CAOS Part 3, Sabrina and Ambrose (Chance Perdomo) cross over and visit Cheryl Blossom’s (Madelaine Petsch) estate, although she doesn’t personally make an appearance in the episode. And in Season 4 of Riverdale, CAOS‘s Billy Marlin (Ty Wood) meets with Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), who interviews him for a story.

When the news of CAOS’s cancellation broke July 8, Aguirre-Sacasa called working on the series “an incredible honor.” “The cast, beginning with Kiernan as everyone’s favorite teen witch, has been an absolute joy,” he said in a statement. “I am beyond thankful to the crew, writers, editors, assistants, and everyone for pouring so much love into this dark dream of a show. I’m also grateful to our partners at Netflix, Warner Bros., Berlanti Television and Archie Comics for letting us tell the story we wanted to tell, the way we wanted to tell it. We can’t wait for everyone to see Part Four.”

CAOS Part 4 does not have an official release date from Netflix yet, but the final installment of the series is expected to premiere later this year.
