‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Comes to Disney+ for Summer Movie Nights

Clear your schedules, Star Wars fans, because you’ve got a date with the brashest young smuggler in the galaxy. Solo: A Star Wars Story is now available to stream on Disney+, which is great news if you missed it when it soared through theaters back in 2018. You can’t go to a movie theater this summer, but at least Disney+ is bringing big budget action movies to your living room!

But what about the other Star Wars movies? Are they all on Disney+? And will Solo ever stream on Netflix again? Here’s what you need to know.

Is Solo: A Star Wars Story on Disney+?

It is now! The 2018 standalone Star Wars film was not available to stream on Disney+ when the platform launched back in November because it was still under contract at Netflix. But now that that old contract has expired, Solo: A Star Wars Story is finally able to join the rest of the Star Wars saga on Disney+.

Will Solo: A Star Wars Story be on Netflix?

It will not! Solo was originally included on Netflix because of a contract between Disney and Netflix, one that pre-dated the creation of Disney+. That contract meant that every new Disney movie would stream exclusively on Netflix for a period of 18 months—and then Disney+ happened. Still, Solo: A Star Wars Story had to run out the clock on its contract, which meant that it couldn’t be available to stream on Disney+ when it launched in November 2019. But now the film’s time on Netflix is done—and it’s likely done for good.

Which Star Wars movies are on Disney+? Which Star Wars movies are on Netflix?

To get the easier answer out of the way: no Star Wars movies are on Netflix anymore. The closest you can get to watching Star Wars on Netflix is the documentary Elstree 1976, which is about the Star Wars background actors that worked on the studio lot during the production of the first Star Wars film in 1976.

If you want to stream Star Wars movies, Disney+ is your new home. All 9 Skywalker saga films are available to stream there, as are Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and the animated Clone Wars feature film. The only Star Wars films that aren’t on the service are the rarely seen made-for-TV ones that aired in the ’70s and ’80s—but that needs to change, Disney!
