What a time for a second apocalyptic drama to come to an end. Today Netflix unveiled the trailer for The Rain‘s third and final season, which premieres on August 6. And the Danish thriller looks as tense as ever.

Created by Jannik Tai Mosholt, Esben Toft Jacobsen, and Christian Potalivo, The Rain takes place in a world that becomes infected by a toxic — you guessed it — rain. Anyone who comes into contact with this virally contaminated water dies on the spot. In the midst of this horror and madness, Simone (Alba August) is tasked with protecting her little brother Rasmus (Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen).

At first it seemed that Simone’s protection of her little bro came from a place of familial loyalty. Yet the end of Season 1 revealed there was something larger at play. Because of the experiments their scientist father ran on him when he was a child, Rasmus is the only known person immune to the effects of the rain. That’s why Simone’s father was always so adamant about having her protect him: Rasmus may be humanity’s only hope. But harvesting that hope will cost Rasmus his life.

Season 2 of the series followed Simone and her impromptu family of on-the-road scavengers as they tried to protect Rasmus from the scientists who wanted to kill him. That season ended with Simone facing off against her little brother. After Rasmus’ girlfriend Sarah (Clara Rosager) was shot Rasmus snapped, harnessing the virus inside of him to kill countless soldiers. While Simone tried to convince her brother killing people is wrong, Rasmus attacked Simone’s boyfriend Martin (Mikkel Følsgaard). That was a step too far for Simone who shot the person she loves more than anything. Ultimately Rasmus was OK, but his relationship with Simone certainly wasn’t.

This new and final season will explore the aftermath of that bleak confrontation. For the first time in this series, Simone and Rasmus are separated. Once they reunite they may finally be able to help the world start over. But who knows what that new world will cost them?

It seems inevitable that The Rain’s final season will be just as thrilling, tense, and addicting as seasons past. But if Simone will allow it, a word of advice. Dump Rasmus. Typically leaving your brother for dead isn’t good advice, but in Simone”s case she deserves so much better than this moody monster. At his best he was whiny and ungrateful and now he’s an unhinged murderer. We’ll be rooting for you Simone (and only Simone) August 6.
