This week we’re shouting out an extremely talented actress who is known for a long career chock-full of renowned work and memorable performances. So, without further ado, give it up for this week’s WCW, the fantastic Nia Long!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Nia Long

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING:

Long stars in and produced the Netflix Original psychological thriller film Fatal Affair, which drops on the platform tomorrow, July 16th. The film follows the story of Ellie (Long), a lawyer who in the process of mending a broken relationship with her husband (Stephen Bishop) is left to defend herself against a dangerous game of obsession and violence from a past acquaintance (Omar Epps). The film has already been marked as a new Netflix titles to watch out for this month by publications like Vanity FairGlamour, and many more, so it is definitely a movie to watch as soon as it comes out. We can’t wait to see what Long brings to the table and how she elevates this brand new film.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Long has had a long career full of impressive and beloved credits, and every year, she continues to put out more and more. However, it all began for her with her professional on-screen debut in a 1986 episode of NBC sitcom 227 and with her feature film debut in 1990 horror/thriller Buried Alive. From there, her career in both film and television quickly took off and never slowed down. She has had recurring or main roles in television shows like soap opera Guiding Light, NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, NBC crime drama Third Watch (for which she won two NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series while portraying Officer Sasha Monroe), ABC comedy-drama Big Shots, Fox animated sitcom The Cleveland Show, Showtime comedy House of Lies, Netflix comedy-drama Dear White People, Fox musical drama Empire, and CBS action series NCIS: Los Angeles, you know, just to name a few.

Film-wise, Long’s work has been just as impressive and extensive, including well known titles and performance like 1991 coming-of-age drama Boyz n the Hood, 1997 romantic drama Love Jones (for which she was nominated for both the Acapulco Black Film Festival Award for Best Actress and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture), 1999 romantic comedy-drama The Best Man (for which she won the Black Reel Award for Best Actress and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture), 2000 comedy Big Momma’s House (as well as its 2006 sequel Big Momma’s House 2), 2005 family comedy Are We There Yet? (as well as its 2007 sequel Are We Done Yet?), 2014 comedy-drama The Single Moms Club, 2016 buddy action comedy Keanu, and 2020 drama The Banker. And this is only listing a fraction of her work. Long is exceedingly talented and one of the hardest working actresses out there, and we can’t wait to see what she does next.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: If you want to catch more of Long then you’re in luck, because the actress has two new projects confirmed and on the way. The first is drama/romance film Life in a Year, which follows 17-year-old Daryn (Jaden Smith) who finds out that his girlfriend (Cara Delevingne) is dying, leading him to try and give her an entire life in the last year she has left, and is expected to be released later this year. The second is an adventure film currently in pre-production called Dreams of the Moon, which is about a young girl who dreams of becoming an astronaut, set against the true story of an Apollo 11 training mission in 1971. For even more from Long, you can follow her life and career through her Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
