In the wild world of streaming, nothing hurts more than your favorite show unexpectedly being removed from your platform of choice. It always, without fail, seems to happen right in the middle of a binge-watch, too. In recent months, a number of popular programs have exited Hulu for HBO Max, and shows you’d think would be on Netflix have also ended up on HBO’s new streaming service (Batwoman).

Earlier this morning, Twitter was abuzz with rumors about The Originals leaving Netflix. Airing from 2013-2018 on The CW, this immensely popular spin-off of The Vampire Diaries has been a staple of the Netflix catalog for years. So what’s going on? Is Netflix taking off The Originals? Here’s everything you need to know.

IS THE ORIGINALS LEAVING NETFLIX?

If you live in the United States you can breathe a sigh of relief. The Originals is leaving Netflix, but only in Australia. If you live Down Under, the beloved CW series exited the platform on July 19, 2020.

IS THE ORIGINALS LEAVING NETFLIX IN AUGUST?

What about the United States? Is The Originals leaving Netflix in August? We’ll officially know on Wednesday when Netflix announces which titles are exiting the platform in August, but we have no reason to believe The Originals will be departing from the platform anytime soon.

While the Netflix/CW deal wasn’t renewed, shows that fall under the previous agreement (Riverdale, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, etc) haven’t been impacted. We know that The Originals is no longer streaming on Netflix in Australia, but it won’t be leaving the streaming service anytime soon in the United States.

WHERE TO WATCH THE ORIGINALS ONLINE:

Unfortunately, Netflix is your best option. While the series isn’t streaming on Hulu, individual episodes and complete seasons are available to purchase on Amazon.
