HBO is celebrating Comic-Con@Home with a first look at Season 2 of His Dark MaterialsDuring today’s virtual panel for the show, HBO unveiled the trailer for the upcoming season of the drama, which introduces some fresh faces.

In today’s newly-released trailer, fans got a glimpse at the city of Cittàgaze and were introduced to some new characters joining the show. Season 2 adds cast members Andrew Scott (John Parry), Jade Anouka (Ruta Skadi), and Simone Kirby (Dr. Mary Malone). Season 1 regulars Dafne Keen (Lyra), Ruth Wilson (Mrs. Coulter), Ariyon Bakare (Lord Boreal), Amir Wilson (Will) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Lee Scoresby) all return for the new season of His Dark Materials.

Fans who know Scott as “Hot Priest” will be pleased to know His Dark Materials will feature another Fleabag favorite. Scott’s costar, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, will join the series for Season 2 as John’s daemon, Total Film confirmed today.

Season 2 picks up after Lyra was betrayed by her father, Lord Asriel (James McAvoy), after he murdered her friend in order to reach the new world. Lyra follows him over the bridge and into the unknown, where she meets Will in the mysterious city. Like Lyra, Will is also running from his past, and the two learn that they’re connected in more ways than one: their destinies depend on reuniting Will with his father, but they face challenges along the way as war begins to break out around them. While Lyra’s mother, Mrs. Coulter, stayed behind in her own world, she searches for her daughter, determined to bring her back no matter the cost.

His Dark Materials is based on the fantasy book trilogy by author Philip Pullman, which includes “The Golden Compass,” “The Subtle Knife” and “The Amber Spyglass.” Pullman has also written a prequel and is working on a new book to follow the trilogy.
