The second season of Prime Video’s hit The Boys won’t debut until September 4, but Amazon is already tripling down on the raunchy, superhero-skewering (sometimes literally) series by ordering a third season from Sony Pictures Television, as just announced at the show’s Comic-Con@Home panel. And that’s not all: Season 2 will have its own official aftershow titled Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys, hosted and executive produced by Aisha Tyler.

“Amazon, in a bold and historic push to expand their ‘weirdo’ demographic, has greenlit Season 3 of The Boys!” said showrunner and executive producer Eric Kripke via press release. “The writers and I are hard at work in the (virtual) writer’s room and we’re sad to say, the world has given us way too much material. We hope to be shooting in early 2021, but that’s up to a microscopic virus… As if that wasn’t enough, we’re bringing you a Season 2 after show, Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys. Double entendre intended. Hosted by the incomparable Aisha Tyler and guest starring the cast and crew, it’s a deep dive into how we make this insane thing. Seriously, thanks to Sony, Amazon and the fans. We love making this show so much, and we’re thrilled we get to make more.”

Though Amazon, like many streamers, doesn’t provide exact figures of numbers of viewers, the comic book adaptation has been a hit for Prime Video, becoming one of the most watched Amazon Originals in its first two weeks — whatever that means, exactly. Regardless, they’re excited about the series, debuting three episodes of Season 2 on September 4, followed by new episodes on each of the following Fridays in order to build up buzz and anticipation for the show, versus the all-at-once model for Season 1.

Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys will actually debut a week earlier, on August 28, with an episode looking back at Season 1. New episodes of Inside The Boys, which is executive produced by Michael Davies, Aisha Tyler, Julia Cassidy, Eden Sutley and Jennifer Ryan, will then stream alongside new episodes of the main series, up until the show’s October 9 season finale. Inside The Boys is produced by Amazon Studios, Embassy Row and Sony Pictures Television.

“Eric Kripke and the incredible cast of The Boys continue to deliver a wild and action-packed series full of surprises and can’t-miss moments that have made the series a global hit,” said Vernon Sanders, Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studios, also via press release. “We couldn’t be more excited to see where Eric takes The Boys and The Supes in Season 3, and to have Aisha Tyler join The Boys family as the host of Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys.”

Aisha Tyler added, “The Boys is one of the smartest, most irreverent, unapologetically badass shows streaming. I became a fan during Season 1 and this season I’m stoked to be flying fans into the heart of the show as host of Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys. Season 2 is bigger, badder, and more audacious than ever before, so join me after every episode as we dig through the rubble pile of our feelings. I promise, we’ll get through it like The Boys — dysfunctional, but together.”

Starring Jack Quaid, Karl Urban and Chace Crawford, The Boys is based on the best-selling comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, and takes place in a world where superheroes are real; and all kind of awful, sociopathic dicks. At the end of Season 1, the titular Boys were on the run, hunted by the Justice League-esque superhero team The Seven… Which coincidentally counts Hughie’s (Quaid) girlfriend Starlight (Erin Moriarty) in their ranks. In Season 2, Aya Cash joins the cast as Stormfront, a “social media-savvy” Supe who is so powerful she even threatens the seemingly unstoppable Homelander (Antony Starr).

The series also stars Laz Alonso, Tomer Capon, Karen Fukuhara, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher and Nathan Mitchell. You can check out The Boys Season 2 starting September 4, and Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys starting August 28. Fingers crossed we also get a Prime Rewind: Mozart In The Jungle, but that’s sort of a long-shot.
