‘Sister, Sister,’ ‘Moesha,’ and More Classic Black Sitcoms Are Coming To Netflix

Get ready for some major nostalgia, because Netflix just acquired the rights to some of the biggest 90s and early 2000s TV comedies. The streaming platform announced today that they’ll be adding seven classic Black sitcoms in the next couple of months, starting this weekend.

Netflix has officially acquired the rights to Moesha, Seasons 1-3 of The Game, Sister, Sister, Girlfriends, The Parkers, Half & Half and One on One. You can catch all six seasons of Moesha starting Aug. 1, with The Game making its Netflix debut shortly after on Aug. 15. Sister, Sister and Girlfriends come to streaming in September, and The Parkers, Half & Half and One on One all drop in October.

Actors from the beloved sitcoms helped break the news today with a celebratory video on Netflix’s Strong Black Lead Twitter account. Sister, Sister stars Tia Mowry, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Jackée Harry and Tim Reid all joined in, along with Moesha‘s Shar Jackson, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Marcus T. Paulk. “You guys have literally been asking for these shows for like, years,” Paulk said in the video. “Years, like, and years.”

The Game‘s Pooch Hall, Brittany Daniel, Wendy Raquel Robinson and Coby Bell also chimed in for the clip, which features Girlfriends actors Tracee Ellis Ross, Jill Marie Jones, Persia White, Golden Brooks and Reggie Hayes. Other appearances include Essence Atkins, Rachel True, Chico Benymon and Valarie Pettiford (Half & Half); Flex Alexander, Robert Ri’chard, Sicily Johnson and Kelly Perine (One on One); and Jenna Von Oy, Ken Lawson and Dorien Wilson (The Parkers).

Netflix’s announcement is big news, and not just for the nostalgia factor. Up until now, most of the sitcoms coming to Netflix haven’t been available to stream, including Sister, Sister, Half & Half, One on One, The Parkers and Moesha. The CW Seed has been home to Girlfriends and The Game, but now fans will be able to stream all of the shows in one place for the first time ever.
