We know that one big name will be returning for American Horror Story‘s spinoff series. At the Television Critics Association‘s 2020 summer tour Sarah Paulson revealed that she would be directing at least one episode of the new American Horror Stories.

“I don’t know if I’ll be in it, but I do know I’ll be directing one,” Paulson teased while on a panel for Netflix’s Ratched.

Announced earlier this year, American Horror Stories will be a weekly anthology series that will focus on a different story every episode rather than a different story every season. It’s still unclear if the new series will involve actors from the run of the original American Horror Story. But considering creator Ryan Murphy’s love of recasting actors and the fact that AHS has already continued the stories for many of its characters, it seems likely.

Paulson also revealed what she knew about when FX’s American Horror Story and Impeachment: American Crime Story would return to filming after production was shut down during COVID-19. “It depends on the state of the world, and California is not having its finest moment right now,” Paulson said. “I’ve heard rumors of October. I’ve heard rumors of 2021. A lot of rumors, but no facts.”

Since both productions will be filmed in Los Angeles when they return is entirely dependent on the state of California. According to the actor the cast and crew were less than two weeks away from starting production on Impeachment when California was shut down.

It’s sad news, but diehard fans of Paulson have a reason to be excited. Ratched will see the actor tackle the role of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest‘s iconic villain Nurse Ratched. It’s a series that Murphy picked up with Paulson in mind. He also fought to make her a producer for the series and worked closely with her and the series’ creator on its development. Filled with sex, blood, gore, and drugs, the series will serve as an origin story for the character. The series was created by Evan Romansky, was developed by Ryan Murphy, and will premiere on Netflix September 18.
