‘Who’s the Boss’ Reboot In the Works with Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano

One of the most iconic sitcoms of the 1980s is returning to the small screen. On Tuesday, Deadline reported that Sony Pictures Television is developing a Who’s the Boss? reboot featuring original stars Alyssa Milano and Tony Danza. The sequel will be executive produced by Norman Lear, who produced the original ABC series under his Embassy Communications banner.

Amid all this excitement, it’s easy to lose sight of the small details. Will Norman Lear appear in the Who’s the Boss reboot? What else do we know about the Who’s the Boss sequel? Read on to find out!

WHAT IS THE WHO’S THE BOSS REBOOT ABOUT?

According to Deadline, Sony’s new Who’s the Boss sequel will reunite viewers with original father-daughter duo Tony and Samantha Micelli 30 years after the series finale. Now a single mother, Samantha (Alyssa Milano) lives in the house where the series was set, prompting endless memories about her time growing up and her father’s career as an MLB player turned housekeeper.

“In line with Norman Lear’s classic shows, the new comedy will explore generational differences, as well as opposing world views and parenting styles within the dynamic of a modern family in 2020,” Deadline reports.

WILL ALYSSA MILANO AND TONY DANZA BE IN THE WHO’S THE BOSS REBOOT?

Yes! Milano and Danza are set to reprise their roles as Samantha and Tony Micelli in the sequel series.

As for the rest of the cast, Judith Light (Angela) and Danny Pintauro (Jonathan) are reportedly supportive of the new reboot, and producers hope to find a way to include their characters in the show.

HOW WILL THE WHO’S THE BOSS REBOOT HONOR MONA?

In 2019, Who’s the Boss? star Katherine Helmond, who played Angela’s mother Mona, passed away at the age of 89. Deadline reports that the cast remains incredibly close, so it’s likely that the reboot will pay tribute to Helmond in some way, but specific details have yet to be released.

WHO’S THE BOSS SEQUEL: HOW WILL NORMAN LEAR BE INVOLVED?

Sitcom legend Norman Lear will serve as an executive producer on the Who’s the Boss reboot alongside his producing partner Brent Miller of ACT III productions and Dan Farah. Danza and Milano will also serve as executive producers on the sequel.

Who’s the Boss? was originally produced by Lear under his Embassy Television banner (it later became Embassy Communications and then ELP Communications). Lear’s company is now owned by Sony Pictures Television, which owns the rights to the series.
