Lizzo Strikes First-Look Deal with Amazon Studios

Lizzo is pulling through when we need her most. It’s been over a year since she dominated the charts with her album “Cuz I Love You,” and just when we’re in the middle of a Lizzo drought (not to mention a global pandemic and a serious lack of bold, catchy pop), she’s bringing new content. The “Truth Hurts” singer must be feeling good as hell today, because she just formed a new partnership with Amazon Studios.

Lizzo struck a first-look deal with Amazon’s production company, which means we’ll be getting some new mood-boosting content to stream in the very near future, exclusively on Prime Video. “I’m so excited to partner with the amazing team at Amazon,” Lizzo said in a statement today. “Thank you to Jen Salke and the rest of the team for making this dream come true. I can’t wait to get started and share my vision with the world.”

Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios, added, “Lizzo is one of the most exciting, creative, joyful artists in the industry, and it is such a pleasure to announce this new deal with her. She has such a unique perspective and we’re so excited to hear her ideas for new content that our Prime Video customers are sure to love.”

Although she’s been performing for years now, Lizzo had a breakthrough year in 2019 with the release of her third studio album, “Cuz I Love You.” Just last year, she won three Grammys (and was the most-nominated artist of the year), was named Time Magazine and Entertainment Weekly’s 2019 Entertainer of the Year, and posed for the covers of Rolling Stone, Billboard’s Grammy Preview Issue, British Vogue, and Elle.

While we don’t have any news about the specifics of Lizzo’s upcoming Amazon Studios projects, we can only hope they’ll be as groundbreaking and innovative as her music. As the singer herself says on “Juice,” “I’m like chardonnay, get better over time.”
