Who Sold the $40 Million Home on ‘Selling Sunset’?

Netflix’s Selling Sunset knows a thing or two about payoff! Viewers have had to wait a while to learn the fate of the $40 million listing, but—spoiler alert—that fate is finally revealed in Season 3.

The house, the biggest house built in the Hollywood Hills, was a major part of the very first episode of Selling Sunset from back in Spring 2019. Jason and Brett Oppenheim, owners of the Oppenheim Group, took the real estate agents on a tour of a still under construction home. The 20,000 square foot home has five bedrooms, nine bathrooms, four hot tubs, an elevator, a 150 ft pool, and a 15-car garage for some reason. It was the biggest home ever handled by the Oppenheim Group, and it had the asking price ($40 million) and commission ($1.2 million) to match.

So, who bought the $40M home? And, more importantly, who got that commission?! You find out in Season 3 of Selling Sunset—keep reading for spoilers and even more info than what they reveal on the show!

Who sold the 40 million dollar house?

This plot line gets resolved in Episode 4 of Season 3, “Everybody Loves Mary.” During the Oppenheim Friendsgiving dinner, Jason Oppenheim raises a glass to thank everyone for coming—and reveal that he just closed on the $40M house.

Jason’s the one that sold it, and Jason got a commission of $1,065,000. The house didn’t actually sell for its asking price; it sold for $35.5 million, which is still a whole lotta money. The other agents are, of course, slightly jealous; who wouldn’t want a million dollar commission? But if they’re 10% jealous, they’re 90% excited and happy for their boss. And hey—Chrishell gets to ring the new “we just sold a house” bell that she’s been wanting.

Who bought the 40 million house on Selling Sunset?

Here’s the behind-the-scenes tea, because Jason signed an NDA and can’t actually disclose the buyers on Selling Sunset. The sale was actually announced in December 2019, so it’s possible that the Friendsgiving setting was fudging the truth a little. Who says Friendsgiving has to happen near Thanksgiving, though?

As for who bought the house—Bustle clocked that Variety reported on the buyers back in December 2019, without once mentioning Selling Sunset. They are Tom Bilyeu and Lisa Bilyeu, a married couple who co-founded Quest Nutrition. Tom’s also a successful YouTuber (1.65M subscribers) and Lisa hosts the motivational podcast Women of Impact.
