Will There Be A ‘Work It 2’? Netflix’s Teen Dance Film Leaves Room For More

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Work It on Netflix.

Do you want to turn off your brain and forget about the real world for 90 minutes this weekend? Of course you do! The world is terrible! Lucky for you, Work It on Netflix is the perfect balm. This new teen dance movie, which began streaming today, is void of pretty much anything emotionally deep or significant. It’s simple a blissful hour-and-a-half of very mild teen drama and very good dancing. It doesn’t hurt that former Vine star Liza Koshy plays a key supporting role in which she is absolutely hilarious.

The premise of Work It is simple: Quinn Ackerman (Sabrina Carpenter) lies to the college admissions officer of her dream college about being on the high school dance team. Rather than come clean, she enlists her best friend Jas (Lizy Koshy), who is on the high school dance team, to teach her some moves. When the rude captain of the team Isaiah (Keiynan Lonsdale) rejects her, Quinn and Jas form their own team, under the guidance of a former dancer named Jake Taylor (Jordan Fisher). Sure, they’re a ragtag group, but with enough montages, they might just have a shot at regionals.

But will this rough-around-the-edges dance crew be able to beat Isaiah’s polished machine at the big competition? I mean, yeah, probably! You have seen movies before, right? If you’d rather skip the actual watching part, read on to find out how Work It ends, and what the odds are for a Work It sequel.

How does Work It end?

TBD—as Quinn and the gang decide to call their dance crew—wins the competition. Quinn’s mom, seeing how happy dancing makes her daughter, forgives Quinn for blowing off her school work and stealing the car. We still don’t know if Quinn got into her dream school (Duke), but we do know that she impressed the former Duke admissions officer (Michelle Buteau), who now works at New York University. We also know that her best friend, Jas, and her rival, Isaiah—who is suddenly being weirdly nice—will be headed to New York City to attend the New York Dance Academy in the fall. So… it sounds like everyone will be in NYC together. Who’s up for Work It 2: New York Minute?

Will there be a Work It 2?

That’s the question, isn’t it? The honest answer is: We don’t know. While the set-up is there, neither Netflix nor director Laura Terruso have announced any plans for a sequel.

But it’s certainly possible. Other dance movies have pulled off the sequel—like Step Up and Bring It On, for example—but it all depends on how well the film does for Netflix. So if you love Work It and want to see more, I’d recommend telling your friends to check out the movie on Netflix. Every stream counts!
