DC Universe Original Shows to Move to HBO Max

The growing HBO Max library is about to get a little bit bigger. DC Universe‘s lineup of original shows is set to move to HBO Max, Publisher and Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics Jim Lee confirmed today in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

DC Universe’s current lineup of exclusive shows includes Titans, Doom Patrol, Young Justice and Harley Quinn, all of which will be soon available to stream on HBO Max, if Lee’s below quote is accurate.

“The original content that is on DCU is migrating to HBO Max,” Lee told THR when asked about the future of DC Universe. “Truthfully, that’s the best platform for that content. The amount of content you get, not just DC, but generally from WarnerMedia, is huge and it’s the best value proposition, if I’m allowed to use that marketing term. We feel that is the place for that.”

DC first launched DC Universe in 2018 as a place for fans to stream movies and shows, as well as new, exclusive content. The streaming platform has produced six original series in total: Titans, Stargirl, Doom Patrol, Young Justice, Swamp Thing and Harley Quinn. Titans first launched with the platform in 2018 and was renewed for Season 3 last year, while Harley Quinn and Doom Patrol both premiered in 2019, and Young Justice premiered in 2010 but was picked up for a third season on DC Universe in 2019.

Although they’re DC Universe originals, some of the series have aired on both The CW and DC Universe since the launch of the streaming service — after it was canceled in 2019, Swamp Thing was moved to The CW for an encore airing of the first (and only season); and Stargirl has aired on both The CW and DC Universe, but will move to The CW network exclusively for Season 2 next year.

Ahead of the shift for all DC Universe originals to HBO Max, two of the five series have already landed earlier seasons on the service. While Seasons 1 and 2 of Harley Quinn originally streamed on DC Universe, they were both recently added to HBO Max; and Season 2 of Doom Patrol aired simultaneously on both DC Universe and HBO Max.

This past June, DC Universe made it easier for subscribers to stream their originals on HBO Max. The DC streaming service offered subscribers a discounted rate if they added HBO Max to their account, cutting the HBO Max price down to $4.99 instead of the standard $14.99 per month. Though the service itself won’t be going away — there are still thousands of comics available, as well as older, non-DC Universe series like Batman: The Animated Series — don’t expect any original series to pop up there in the future. They’re going to the Max.
