Chemical Hearts on Amazon is soon to be the latest in the classic film genre known as “teens with a traumatic backstory falling in love with each other.” They should really think of a catchier name!

Starring Riverdale‘s Lili Reinhart and Euphoria‘s Austin Abrams, Chemical Hearts has everything it needs to be a win for Amazon: A cast of popular young actors, lighting that resembles an Instagram filter, and, of course, heaps of heart-wrenching romance. Based on the novel Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland, the film was adapted for the screen and directed by Richard Tanne, best known for his critically-acclaimed biopic about the Obamas, Southside of You. Abrams stars as Henry Page, a high schooler who falls in love easily but has never had a girlfriend. Enter Grace Town (Reinhart), who is still recovering, emotionally and physically, from a car accident where she lost someone she loved. When Henrey and Grace are tasked with editing the school newspaper, the two fall in love.
