Woman Crush Wednesday: Karen Fukuhara Shows ‘The Boys’ Who’s the Boss

Happy September, everybody! There’s truly no better way to celebrate the beginning of this new month and impending start of Fall than with a brand new Woman Crush Wednesday. This week we’re talking about a woman who kicks some serious booty both on screen and off (she’s even got a brown striped belt in karate!). She’s an up-and-coming star and an overall wonderful and talented human being, so if you’re not a fan already, that’s about to change! Without further ado, give it up for the first WCW of September, Karen Fukuhara.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Karen Fukuhara

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Fukuhara is reprising her role as Kimiko (aka “The Female”) in Season 2 of the Amazon Prime Video original superhero/thriller/black comedy series The Boys, which will begin streaming the new season weekly starting this Friday, September 4th. Kimiko is a mute, feral member of The Boys with enhanced strength and regenerative healing. She’s back with the gang for the show’s sophomore season, and it looks to be even more action-packed, heart-racing, and bloody than ever before (if you can believe it). With a new neo-Nazi, explosively pot-stirring member (Aya Cash) of The Seven, plus a Billy Butcher (Karl Urban)-led new quest for vengeance and the retrieval of Billy’s wife by any means necessary, there’ll be no shortage of excitement in store for us on The Boys. The show’s second season is already receiving rave reviews from publications like InverseIGN, and… Oh, right, Decider, so make sure you don’t miss out on Fukuhara and the rest of the cast’s incredible work by watching The Boys as soon as it’s released.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: While Fukuhara only began her professional on-screen career within the past five years, she has already accrued an impressive list of credits to her name, starting with the role of Katana (which she landed without an agent) in the 2016 action/adventure/fantasy blockbuster Suicide Squad, in which she acted alongside the likes of Margot Robbie, Will Smith, and Jared Leto. Not to shabby for a film debut!

From there, Fukuhara continued to gain experience on screens big and small, appearing in short drama/thriller film The Lost and pilot of animated comedy series Craig of the Creek in 2017, and then in 2019 she starred in action/crime/fantasy feature length film Stray. Fukuhara has had a lot of recent success on animated television series, reprising her multiple roles on Craig of the Creek since 2018, voicing Glimmer on animated action adventure series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power from 2018 to 2020, and currently voicing the main character, Kipo Oak, in animated action adventure series Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts. These roles, in addition to her continued work on The Boys, will undoubtedly help open plenty of doors for Fukuhara, and we’re looking forward to seeing what she has on the horizon in what is sure to be a long and successful career.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: While we are not sure what’s next for Fukuhara at the moment, you can keep up with her in the meantime on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Give her a follow so you don’t miss out on any news or updates from your new favorite actress!
