Where to Stream:

Star Trek: Discovery

After the success of DC FanDome, Warner Bros’ superhero focused event, it was inevitable that some other media property would try their hand at a virtual, all-day party. And now, we have the answer to who and what that will be, as CBS All Access has announced a 24-hour long virtual celebration on Tuesday, September 8 to honor the 54th anniversary of the premiere of Star Trek: The Original Series.

Before you ask: the 54th anniversary gift is glass, so be sure to get Star Trek something nice. But if you were wondering what Star Trek Day will entail, the answer is panels for nine Star Trek TV Series, a streaming marathon of episodes from across the franchise, and plenty of chances for fan engagement along the way.

The centerpiece of the event is the Star Trek Day Global Panels, which will stream live and free on StarTrek.com/Day starting at 3pm ET, and running until 6:30pm ET. Hosted by Wil Wheaton and Mica Burton, the panels promise some deep discussions with various casts from Star Trek past, present and future; as well as “updates, announcements and footage,” according to a press release provided to Decider.

Here’s the list of panels, attending talent, and potentially what to expect:

Star Trek: Discovery
With the CBS All Access series entering its third season, join series stars Sonequa Martin-Green and David Ajala and co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise for a panel that will hopefully show off some footage from the October 15 premiere, and beyond. It also may touch on the recent announcement that Discovery will feature the franchise’s first non-binary and trans characters.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
There’s a lot of anticipation on this Discovery spinoff focusing on the crew of the Enterprise after they tangled with Discovery and before the events of The Original Series, which was officially announced despite the cast being in lockdown for COVID. The panel will feature series stars Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck; executive producers Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers; and co-executive producers Akela Cooper and Davy Perez.

Star Trek: Enterprise
You’ve got faith of the heart that the next panel focuses on the OG Star Trek prequel, with series stars Scott Bakula, Linda Park, John Billingsley, Dominic Keating, Anthony Montgomery and Connor Trinneer.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Flash back to arguably the best Trek spinoff (please nobody @ me) with series stars Terry Farrell, Alexander Siddig, Armin Shimerman, Nana Visitor, Cirroc Lofton and executive producer Ira Steven Behr.

Star Trek: The Original Series
Oh my! It’s a panel focusing on the show that started it all, with series star George Takei and the CEO of Roddenberry Entertainment, Rod Roddenberry.

Star Trek: Lower Decks
With the animated comedy about halfway through its first season, join voice cast Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells and Eugene Cordero and series creator, showrunner and executive producer Mike McMahan for a discussion of whether in space, anyone can hear you laugh.

Star Trek: Voyager
Time for another flashback with series stars Kate Mulgrew, Robert Picardo, Robert McNeill, Garrett Wang, Tim Russ and Ethan Phillips.

Star Trek: Picard
Frakes news! The panels portion of the day closes out focusing on the first (and presumably second) season of the CBS All Access Next Gen sequel, with legendary cast members Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes. Will they invite host Wil Wheaton to reunite with them in Season 2? Or will everyone continue to hate Wesley Crusher? Tune in to find out!

As for other programming, the Star Trek marathon will also run on the StarTrek.com/Day website; however, the programming will only be available for viewers in the United States. That included episodes from Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: The Animated Series, Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Short Treks. Programming will begin at 3am ET on Tuesday, September 8, pause for the panels at 3pm, then continue until 12am ET following the conclusion of said panels.

Additionally, as part of the #StarTrekUnitedGives campaign, CBS All Access will donate $1 to organizations including the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) and the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) for every person who tweets using the hashtag (presumably over the 24 hour period).

There will also be a Star Trek merch flash sale at https://shop.startrek.com/ (time to snap up that Discovery command uniform you’ve been eyeing), Star Trek twitter emojis featuring Geordi La Forge, Michael Burnham, Jean-Luc Picard and more, a virtual pub quiz hosted by Geeks Who Drink at 7pm ET at https://www.twitch.tv/geekswhodrinkpubquizzes/, and starting today fans can use the hashtag #StarTrekStory on Twitter and Instagram to share their Star Trek memories, for a chance to featured on official Star Trek platforms.

Again, I want to reemphasize the most important info, though: it’s the glass anniversary. Don’t forget to buy Star Trek a gift, or the franchise will be very disappointed.
