It’s taken two episodes of buildup, but The Vow is finally starting to dive into the most shocking details of NXIVM. “At Cause” largely follows Sarah Edmondson, a former member of the organization who joined the subgroup Dominus Obsequious Sororium (DOS). That group was responsible for the sex cult and branding accusations against NXIVM.

Want to know more about this actor turned whistleblower? We have you covered. Here’s your guide to Sarah Edmondson and her difficult journey from NXIVM champion to one of its biggest rivals.

Who Is Sarah Edmondson in The Vow?

An actor, Edmondson was first recruited to NXIVM by her friend Mark Vicente. Soon after joining she took to the program, rising to become one of the company’s top earners and top recruiters. Like Vicente and her husband Anthony “Nippy” Ames, Edmondson came to have a close relationship with NXIVM’s founder and head Keith Raniere. But this happiness didn’t last.

Edmondson was recruited into the subgroup DOS by her friend and mentor Lauren Salzman. Sold as a self-help group exclusively for women, DOS actually blackmailed its members into doing such things as sleeping with Raniere and all of its initiated members were given a brand.

After joining DOS and getting branded herself, Edmondson distanced herself from the organization. She became one of the most outspoken whistleblowers against NXIVM and DOS. Some of The Vow‘s most shocking revelations come from Edmondson’s stories. In 2019 Edmondson filed a complaint with the New York State Department against Danielle Roberts, the physician who performed Edmondson’s branding. After these allegations Roberts was suspended from practicing in a Wisconsin Hospital System.

What Has Sarah Edmondson Been In?

Though the Canadian actress has been in several projects, she hasn’t had a breakout role yet. She’s appeared in Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Big Wolf on Campus, Stargate SG-1, and Andromeda. She’s also starred in Lifetime’s Killer Hair and Hostile Makeover as well as in Hallmark’s When the Heart Calls. Edmondson has also done quite a bit of voice acting work for Bratz, Barbie, and Polly Pocket movies.

Is Sarah Edmondson Still Married to Nippy?

She is. Working with Anthony “Nippy” Ames is what helped Edmondson escape DOS and subsequently NXIVM. They have two children together and now try to expose the organization together.

Where Is Sarah Edmondson Now?

She’s still working to inform people about the dangers of NXIVM. After leaving the organization she published a memoir, entitled Scarred: The True Story of How I Escaped NXIVM, the Cult That Bound My Life.
