When Is ‘Julie and the Phantoms’ Season 2 Coming to Netflix?

Julie and the Phantoms is Netflix’s newest teen dramedy—and it has a supernatural edge. The series follows Julie, a teen girl who has a haunting experience that… isn’t that bad, actually. She meets three ghosts, an up-and-coming band from the ’90s with unfinished business and killer tunes. They team up and rock the neighborhood—as much as a ghost band can without blowing the lid on the whole “ghosts are real” thing and completely changing how humanity views existence, y’know?

If you’ve already binged all of Season 1, you no doubt want to know if there’ll be a Season 2. Here’s everything we know right now about the future of Julie and the Phantoms!

Does Julie and the Phantoms Season 1 end on a cliffhanger?

Does it ever–and here’s your spoiler warning! The season ends with Julie and her ghostly backup band performing the biggest gig of their career: an opening spot for Panic! At the Disco at the Orpheum Theatre. This was more than a show, too; this was supposed to be the unfinished business preventing Luke, Reggie, and Alex from crossing over to the other side. And crossing over rocketed to the top of their to-do list after they got ensnared by the evil showman Caleb, a ghastly nightclub owner determined to add Sunset Curve to his eternal lineup. While the Orpheum show didn’t send the boys to Heaven, it did accomplish something great: it broke the hold that Caleb had over them. But you can’t count a flashy phantasm like Caleb out just yet; he showed up at Julie’s house in the final moments of Season 1 and he possessed Julie’s love interest, Nick!

Will there be a Julie and the Phantoms Season 2?

Obviously Season 1 has some serious unfinished business, but does that mean the show will get a Season 2? We don’t know just yet—and that probably depends on if audiences binge Julie and the Phantoms Season 1.

The show does have this going for it, though: it comes from superstar hitmaker Kenny Ortega, the director behind Disney’s High School Musical franchise. Netflix signed Ortega to a multi-year deal to develop shows and films for the streaming service—and Julie and the Phantoms is the first project to come out. Just going off that, it seems like Netflix would be more inclined to give Julie and the Phantoms another season since they’re committed to working with Ortega—but the show still needs viewers to turn out for Season 1!

When will Julie and the Phantoms Season 2 come out?

First, Netflix has to order another season of Julie and the Phantoms. Then production on the show will have to start up again—and we still don’t know how the pandemic will affect those potential plans. Julie and the Phantoms does film in Vancouver, which could mean that production on Season 2 could get started sooner than if it filmed in the United States (Canada’s response to the pandemic has been much stronger). Only time will tell!

Decider will update this piece when Netflix makes a decision about Julie and the Phantoms Season 2.
