Street Outlaws star Christopher Scott Ellis, best known by the nickname “Kentucky,” has died at the age of 39. According to an obituary written by his family, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, September 9 at his home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The obituary does not explain what happened to Kentucky from Street Outlaws, as a cause of death has not yet been revealed.
Born November 7, 1980 in Cynthiana, Kentucky, Ellis worked a series of different jobs until he discovered his passion and natural talent for fixing cars. He eventually transitioned into a career as a street-racing auto mechanic and joined the team at Midwest Street Cars Automotive in Oklahoma City.
Ellis quickly established himself as a hard worker with a great sense of humor, and in 2013, he was cast on the inaugural season of Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws, a reality series about rival racing groups. The mechanic continued to appear in Street Outlaws, now in its sixteenth season, over the years, and he has long been a fan favorite character. In the days since his death was announced, these fans have flooded his Instagram with nice comments wishing him and his family well.
“Chris, a skilled hunter, loved spending time outdoors,” reads his obituary. “He was generous and kind, and knew exactly how to make the people he loved smile. Chris was a dearly-loved brother, son, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.”
“Chris will be missed by his mother Loleta Sullins,” it continues, “Brothers Robbie Ellis, Quentin Ellis, and Logan Justice; along with his sisters, Amanda Scothorn, Alana Messer, and Amanda Whobrey.”
A graveside service for Ellis will be held on Friday, September 18 at 1 p.m. local time. Fans can send well wishes or a flower arrangement to his family here.
